GERIATRICO SANT LLORENÇ

This residence for the elderly in Sa Pobla is a compact and emphatic building, designed to integrate harmoniously into its peripheral and ill-defined surroundings. With two large interior courtyards, the building becomes a protected and welcoming space, encouraging exchange and relationships between residents.

The design seeks a balance between the empty and the full, the built-up space and the open space, respecting and valuing the plot on which it is located.

The building is located on the northeast side of the plot, while the immediate surroundings are used for car parking. We have extended the road and pedestrian access through this area, and we have treated the perimeter areas with landscaping, paving and shading so that they can be used as an extension of the building.

The new residence consists of a ground floor, first floor and a small basement. The design focuses on two interior courtyards, creating a compact and regular volume.

Inside, care has been taken to ensure accessibility and functionality for users and workers.

The main entrance is through a green space that leads directly to the foyer and administrative area. From there, a clear longitudinal route provides access to all floors and rooms.

The building is constructed with a regular modulated structure and a totally prefabricated and kilometre 0 system, taking advantage of local resources and minimising the environmental impact, taking into account the durability, proximity and economy of conservation and maintenance of the materials.

Prefabricated reinforced concrete panels and modular carpentry and glass panels will be used for the openings. Its orientation on the plot, located on the north-south axis, will allow it to take advantage of the correct views and sunlight depending on the slope.

The roofs will be landscaped and will have a large area of photovoltaic panels for energy self-sufficiency. The use of prefabricated concrete elements, prefabricated paving, landscaped roof and standardised wooden carpentry will help to keep maintenance and costs to a minimum.
