CASA PALOU

This house is an original construction from 1970 between party walls, in the urban centre of Sa Pobla within the urban fabric of the first growth of the old town, located on a street where the views and perspectives open towards the Sierra de Tramuntana. The plot has a rectangular and elongated shape with an interior courtyard and faces two streets with the peculiarity that originally there were 2 houses that were joined into one.

The desire to create a street and maintain the perspectives and views of it leads us to the design of the main volume, starting with the main façade, in a simple way and respecting the proportions of the neighbouring traditional houses.

The fact that it was originally two houses joined into one means that we find different levels per floor, divergences in the structural bays that appear in the third bay as a result of self-construction, together with pathologies, which caused its demolition and it was completely remade on the ground floor and P1 of the main volume, providing the building with a courtyard-corral with dimensions in accordance with the plot. In the secondary volume, the different heights of the floors and roofs are unified and a façade treatment is carried out in accordance with the peculiarity of a street of carports and garages.

The work more specifically consists of the redistribution of the existing housing on the ground floor and first floor, together with the extension of this for a more appropriate use and thus satisfy the current habitability needs, also the programmatic needs of the promoters. Thus, on the ground floor, we reused the main entrance by means of a porch entrance and in the interior area we find an open space (two bays) with the hall-distributor with side accesses (bedroom, bathroom and living-dining room) and directly to the kitchen, as well as the open staircase to access the upper floors. This floor is directly connected, in the kitchen-living-dining area, to the interior patio, which in turn allows the connection with the building attached to the house.
